Salisbury ranked among best cities to visit in 2015Posted on 28th October 2014
Despite being a small city in England, Salisbury has a big reputation and has just been ranked as one of the best places in the world to visit in 2015.
According to a list created by Lonely Planet, Salisbury is the seventh best city to visit next year and the cathedral city rubs shoulders with the likes of Milan, Vienna and Washington D.C.
Salisbury is renowned for boasting some of the best holiday cottages in Wiltshire and for being a great base to see the world-famous Stonehenge, but the Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2015 guide now says the city is no longer “a short stop on the way to Stonehenge” and is instead a great place to visit in its own right.
The guide highlights that 2015 marks the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, the first document enforced on a King of England by a group of feudal barons, which can be found in Salisbury Cathedral. The cathedral also has the tallest spire in Britain, the world’s oldest working clock and the UK’s largest cloister, and the city itself has a number of top class restaurants, a great nightlife and a host of festivals planned for 2015.
The guide added, “We believe Salisbury is a must-see for domestic and international travellers alike.”
The Lonely Planet list of top 10 cities includes Washington D.C., El Chalten in Argentina, Milan, Zermatt in Switzerland, Velletta in Malta, Plovdiv in Bulgaria, Salisbury, Vienna, Chennai and Toronto.
