| Situated on the edge of the country village of Shalbourne, on the borders of Wiltshire and Berkshire, The Barn has been expertly and sensitively converted from one end of a listed 18th century barn next to the main Grade II * farmhouse, which itself has origins in the 14th century. Although the owners no longer run a working farm they keep geese and chickens and have reverted their arable fields to 18 acres of wildflower meadows, around which there are footpaths for keen walkers.
Visitors are welcome to share the owners' heated, outdoor swimming pool during the summer months (normally May to September inclusive), or play tennis on the local court. The Barn is also very centrally placed for exploring an historic part of southern England, Winchester, Salisbury, Bath, Oxford and Windsor all being within an hour's drive. Closer to Shalbourne are the local market towns of Hungerford and Marlborough, both well known for their antique shops, the ancient stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge, the Kennet & Avon Canal (narrow boat trips) and the Savernake Forest. London is just over an hour by train from Hungerford (4 miles) and junction 14 of the M4 is approx. 7 miles.
The Barn has been awarded a 4 Star grading by Visit Britain. |
