Devizes picks up prizes at Wiltshire awards ceremonyPosted on 25th March 2014
Devizes has reaffirmed that it is one of the county’s most popular attractions with holidaymakers after it won two awards at the Wiltshire Life magazine ceremony.
Devizes is a popular stop-off for people staying in the new holiday cottages in Wiltshire that are just a stone’s throw away from the town.
Devizes’ popularity with visitors to the region meant that the town picked up the High Street of the Year award, whilst the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes picked up the award for Attraction of the Year at the awards ceremony, which took place at the weekend.
As part of its submission statement, the Devizes Tourism Partnership said its High Street and market was the envy of nearby towns.
It said, “Our Thursday market is the envy of neighbouring towns, with a wide range of offerings, including local produce.
“With regular collectors’ fairs to the Corn Exchange and the covered Shambles, it delivers colour and value for money, attracting many visitors – evidenced by an increased footfall of over 40 per cent.”
