Now that we’ve entered November, it finally feels acceptable to start talking about Christmas, and what better way to do so than talk about shopping?

Buying for others is one of the most enjoyable parts of the festive season, anticipating the looks on your loved ones’ faces as they open your gift on the most magical day of the year. Finding that perfect present is also a fun experience, and one that will be enhanced even further when shopping in Wiltshire, which is a treasure trove of all things Christmassy.

Salisbury

We highly recommend that you head to Salisbury in the run up to Christmas, as not only will it look beautifully festive, but the city will also be hosting its popular annual market. Set in the historic Guildhall Square, those visiting will be able to peruse the wooden-style stalls, selling locally made crafts and delicacies. It’s also the perfect excuse to try some of the delicious food, such as sausages and gingerbread, which always seem to taste twice as good at this time of year. Add in the friendly personalities of the traders, and the festive music, and you have a wonderful winter land experience.

As for the city centre itself, there are a whole wealth of shops, ranging from favourite high street stores, to independent shops with niche stock. The latter is particularly helpful if you have a relative or friend with a specific interest, such as health or sport, as you’ll be able to find some great inspiration for things they’d like. There are also three shopping malls, not forgetting Fisherton Mill, where you will find many unique items to suit a variety of tastes.

Swindon

Those who like to get themselves a bargain will want to visit Swindon, which is home to one of the McArthurGlen Designer Outlets, which you can find all over the world. Shoppers can find items discounted by up to 60 per cent, meaning you can buy even more for your family and friends, or even get yourself a sneaky treat! Designer brands include Clarks, LK Bennett, Osprey London, Ted Baker, Polo Ralph Lauren and Superdry, meaning you can get great quality products for less. You’ll also get to see the loco train at the outlet, which gets decorated ever year in the spirit of Christmas!

There’s also the Wilton Shopping Village, which boasts a riverside location near to the famous Wilton Carpet Factory. On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th, the courtyard will be filled with a Christmas gift fair, which those on holiday in the county will not want to miss! For a little bit of extra fun, there will also be an ice rink at the picturesque shopping centre, which those staying in Wiltshire holiday cottages can enjoy until January 3rd.

Devizes

This pretty market town may not boast the same number of high street stores as the others mentioned, but what it lacks in big brands it sure makes up for in smaller shops. Many of these offer a wide range of goods that will be hard to find elsewhere, meaning you’ll be able to find something meaningful, which is unlikely to have been thought of by anyone else. Whether it’s a special antique, or a fascinating toy, Devizes will help you to think outside of the box.

You’ll also find a number of shops where you’ll be able to pick up essentials such as wrapping paper, Christmas cards, and, of course, crackers! Once you’ve shopped till you’ve dropped, the selection of cafes will be able to provide you with an energy-boosting snack, or a warming drink that is bound to make you feel festive.
